Replace your old refrigerator, freezer or clothes washer with a new ENERGY STAR qualified model and receive a
cash rebate of up to $105! If you recycle your old appliance, you will receive the maximum rebate amount. You
will also be helping the environment by properly recycling.
In order to be eligible for the rebate for your new ENERGY STAR appliance, you must be replacing an existing appliance of the same type.

Before you can fill out th rebate application form, you must first purchase your ENERGY STAR appliance(s).
You may apply for the rebate program in two ways:
- Fill out the Wait List Application Form online then mail in the required proof of purchase and/or proof of recycling
information.
- Call the program hotline at 1-877-NY-SMART to fill out the form over the phone, then mail in the required
proof of purchase and, if applicable, proof of recycling.
Many appliance retail stores will offer to pick up and recycle your old appliance when you purchase a new one
from them. However, if your retail store does not provide recycling, there are many
local recycling centers and
transfer stations you can contact who can properly recycle your old appliance.
If you plan to recycle the appliance on your own by delivering it to a local recycling facility, you must include the attached Customer Recycling Form with your receipt from the recycling facility.
Recycling Information for New York City Residents:
New York City residents can take advantage of recycling already offered to them through the NYC Department of
Sanitation (DOS). To schedule a pickup for your
refrigerator or
freezer (all appliances with environmentally
hazardous refrigerants require proper decommissioning prior to recycling) simply call 311 and ask to have your
appliance recycled. Be sure to obtain your confirmation number from the operator as it will be used to verify
recycling of your appliance. Please Note: If you wish to receive the
maximum rebate for your
clothes washer
by recycling your existing appliance, you must have a recycling station or retailer recycle it to obtain
proof of recycling. NYC DOS will recycle your clothes washer free of charge, however, they are unable to provide
proof of recycling documentation which is required to receive the maximum rebate amount.
YOUR
Wait List APPLICATION AND RECEIPT MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO BE ACCEPTED:
Appliance type (refrigerator, freezer, etc.);
Make;
Model;
Name of company/location where recycled;
Date of recycling pick-up of old appliance; and
Approximate age of recycled appliance.
If you plan to recycle the appliance on your own by delivering it to a local recycling facility, you must include the attached
Form with your receipt from the recycling facility.
- Your new ENERGY STAR appliance must be purchased between February 12th, 2010 and the date available funding runs out. Your recycling receipt or confirmation number must be dated February 12th –
July 31st, 2010. All applications must be postmarked by July 31st, 2010.
- You must be a New York State resident and the ENERGY STAR qualified appliance must be installed at a New
York State residential address.
- Your new ENERGY STAR qualified appliance must be replacing an existing appliance of the same type.
- The new appliance purchased must be ENERGY STAR qualified. Look for the ENERGY STAR logo when shopping or
ask a sales associate for help.
- The rebate is only available to residents of single-family homes and multi-family buildings who own the
existing appliance that is being replaced by their new ENERGY STAR qualified appliance purchase. Contractors,
builders, and multi-family building owners are not eligible.
- In order to receive the maximum rebate amount, you must recycle the replaced appliance. A receipt providing
proof of recycling, including make and model of the replaced appliance, must be submitted with each completed
application. For NYC residents only: Confirmation numbers from the NYC 311 hotline will also be accepted as
recycling verification for refrigerators and freezers only. NYSERDA will contact the NYC DOS to confirm your
recycling verification information.
- Original receipts (showing make, model, price and date of purchase of qualifying appliance) must be submitted
with the application. Copies are only accepted when multiple applications are submitted for qualifying purchases
on the same receipt.
- A maximum of one rebate per appliance type is allowed per install address. Consumers may submit up to 3
individual rebate applications for qualifying purchases. Individual applications should be submitted for each
appliance purchase.
- Applications will be processed for payment once the completed application is received with receipts verifying
the new purchase and confirmation of recycling (if applicable). Wait list applications will be processed as long as funding is available.
- This rebate cannot be combined with incentives offered by utility companies or municipalities. However,
combining the rebate with manufacturer rebates or retail promotions is allowed.
- Compact refrigerators (refrigerators that measure less than 7.75 cubic feet) are not eligible under this
rebate program.
NOTE: This is a first-come, first-served program. Once wait list program funding is exhausted, applications will no longer be processed.
Purchase a bundle of three High Efficiency ENERGY STAR qualified appliances (a combination of a refrigerator,
clothes washer and dishwasher) and receive a cash rebate of up to $555! If you recycle your old appliances of
the same type, you will receive the maximum rebate amount while also helping the environment.
In order to be eligible for the rebate for your new High Efficiency appliances, you must be
replacing existing appliances of the same type.
To participate in the Option 2 – High Efficiency Appliance Bundle Rebate Program, you must purchase three High
Efficiency appliances (a refrigerator, clothes washer and dishwasher – maximum one of each type) which
must meet the
Consortium for Energy Efficiency's (CEE) guidelines:
- Refrigerator must be from CEE Tier 2 or 3
- Clothes Washer must be from CEE Tier 2 or 3
- Dishwasher must be from CEE Tier 1 or 2
